The Mayor's Office of Civic and Community Engagement invites residents ages 16 and older interested in paid internship positions to attend the tenth annual Bright Future Employment Fair. The fair will take place Saturday, April 5th from 10:00 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the UMKC's Pierson Auditorium, located inside the Atterbury Student Success Center at 5000 Holmes Rd. This year's fair is sponsored by UMKC's Public Administration Student Association. For more information and to RSVP for the fair, visit
"The summer months are a great time for our community's youth to build job skills while they aren't in a classroom," said Mayor Sly James. "City government offers some unique opportunities for youth to receive hands-on experience in a variety of fields. I encourage our young people to attend the Bright Future Fair in April and get a jump start on building a rewarding career."

The Bright Future program has provided more than 3,500 area residents with paid part-time, full-time and internship opportunities since its inception in 2005. This year's program will feature professional development and financial literacy seminars taught by the Metropolitan Community College Institute for Workforce Innovation.

"As a student studying design, I was able to work on a wide range of projects ranging from designing City ads on the sides of Pepsi cans and leading the creative efforts on the KC High-5 Campaign, to helping my team implement a new brand for the City. I am grateful to be able to continue working with a team of skilled, accomplished and driven individuals," said Karen Daugherty, Summer 2013 Bright Future Intern, City Communications.
